Chuck Metzgar

Co-Founder

Chuck is passionate about the community he serves. He believes healthy food should do more than nourish our families; it should support our community and be good to our Earth. Chuck earned a reputation for his leadership as managing director and member of the U.S. Board of Directors of Mercer, Inc. As a member of Mercer U.S. Leadership Group (USLG), he was a key part of the management team responsible for all U.S. operations. He was also a member of the worldwide Planning and Operations Group for Mercer, Inc., the leadership team responsible for worldwide strategy, planning, and operations. In addition, Chuck has served as a visiting adjunct professor at The Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, teaching Leadership in Organizations and a visiting professor at Cambridge University, UK for The Jepson School of Leadership Studies. He has served on numerous boards of directors, advisory boards, and executive committees, including what is now Richmond Performing Arts Alliance, Black & Decker Health Management, Rexam Health Management, The Capital Management Corporation, and Richmond Advisory Board for BB&T. At Greenswell Growers, Chuck combines his extensive leadership skills and his unwavering advocacy for sustainability and education to plant Greenswell Growers proudly in Goochland, Virginia.

John May

Co-Founder

John is one of our passionate co-founders who is on a mission to change lives through the power of food. John is our communications and innovation guru! He has spent his career helping people and systems stay better connected as part of the telecommunications industry and Northern Virginia's technical community for over 30 years. John has served as CEO of TrustNetMD, provided Johns Hopkins Hospital System with social media solutions via a Knowledge Exchange, served as CEO and Chairman of Linguateq, and held executive positions at Telenet , GTE, Sprint, MCI, and COMSAT. He holds a Master of Science in computer science from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Business Administration from American University, and a B.S. in mathematics from Marietta College. Today, John applies his deep range of expertise in networking and connectivity solutions to positively impact the food industry. Most of all, John is passionate about harnessing technology and community to grow healthy, delicious, and sustainable greens in a local setting.

Doug Pick

Co-Founder

Doug, one of our passionate co-founders, is on a mission to change lives through the power of food. Doug serves as the chief executive officer at Feed More, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization. Under his leadership, Feed More is focused not only on nourishing the community but also on empowering lives. At Feed More, Doug and his team collaborate with 275+ organizations to serve over 225,000 at-risk children, families and seniors through its Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and Community Kitchen programs. Doug also serves as the chair for the VA Federation of Food Banks and as the co-chair for the VCU Health Equity Steering Committee. And he has contributed to our community as the facilitative leader for the RVA Food Collaborative, an adjunct function of the Capital Region Collaborative’s Healthy Community Initiative. Doug's expertise runs deep and he regularly contributes to national initiatives as well. He serves on two national taskforces with Feeding America: Collaborating for Clients and Innovative Development Practices. Doug is a graduate of UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce. He was the Commerce School’s representative to UVA’s Student Council where he served as treasurer and was honored to win the first annual Douglas Henry Pick Service Award. Doug knows that food security is essential for our community’s success and he's committed to making sure our neighbors never struggle to put clean, healthy food on their tables. As a co-founder of Greenswell Growers, he is committed to helping our large-scale indoor growing facility provide ready-to-eat, locally grown, fresh greens 365 days a year.

Carl Gupton

CEO

Plants First. Two powerful words that drive everything we do at Greenswell Growers. It’s Carl’s job to lead the Greenswell Growers team and operationalize our business model with plants first at all times. He brings a commitment to innovative technology and sustainable practices, and a passion for local to everything we do. Carl comes to Greenswell Growers with a deep background in bringing bold projects to life. He holds an M.B.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University – School of Business and a B.A. in business and economics from Randolph-Macon College. He previously served as vice president/general manager at Pohlig Packaging, in addition to roles as vice president of sales and sales manager. He also served as vice president at Commonwealth Packaging Corp. Carl ensures that our large-scale indoor growing facility is as sustainable as it is productive at all times.
