Committed to Growing
a Sustainable Future for Everyone

At Greenswell Growers, we’re committed to sustainability and encourage others to join us in improving the health of our planet. Sustainability is more than words; it’s action steps that we all share. Here are just a few of the ongoing efforts that our indoor growing facility takes every day as part of our pledge to the planet:

Our 77,000-square-foot indoor growing facility

is the most advanced and sustainable of its kind in the mid-Atlantic region. And it’s one of only a handful of greenhouses using a unique automated growing system in the United States. This makes it possible for Greenswell Growers to produce a reliable supply of leafy greens each year, which have the highest health benefits to the consumer and reduce carbon footprint.

To make this possible, we tap into light from Mother Nature, combined with supplemental light when needed, to produce baby leaf greens year-round and to ensure the highest quality of our plants.

With a commitment to “Plants First,”

we have unwavering standards for growing products that yield full texture, are firm and have high-quality taste.

To grow the best plants in the most sustainable way, we recycle 95 percent of all water used in the growing process, of which natural rainwater is our first option.

When it comes time to package,

we are committed to reducing the industry’s overreliance on plastics – while at the same time increasing shelf life at the retail and consumer level! Greenswell Growers is able to achieve this goal through the use of our unique film seal rather than relying on plastic in our packaging.

With a centrally located hub in the mid-Atlantic, Greenswell Growers reduces the ecological footprint of shipping produce across the United States. According to production statistics compiled by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, 75 percent of the nation’s lettuce and leafy greens are grown in California. In contrast, we are able to limit the carbon footprint of fresh greens, while avoiding supply chain disruptions, through a centrally located indoor growing facility. That’s right, we place healthy greens on the consumer’s plate 365 days a year without interruption and with minimal transportation required!

We are committed to donating 5 percent of our production to area food banks, including Goochland Cares and Feed More, Virginia’s largest food bank.

Best of all, we’re passing our unique
approach to growing on to others.

Greenswell Growers actively partners with Goochland County High School’s Career and Technical Education Center to empower the very students that will lead future generations in
sustainable growing methods.
